"I love you. It's a poor excuse for what I'm doing, but it's still true." Edward Cullen, Twilight, p. 366
Twilight Thursday is a feature I created to share my love of all things Twilight. I'm a huge fan of the books and movies, so every Twilight related topic I have to talk about will fall under this feature. Even though I vowed to never write a review of these books, I'm not opposed to sharing my opinions or defending the franchise I love. For any questions, comments, etc., about this feature or Twilight, feel free to leave a comment or email. I'm up for any/all Twi-Convos! This feature is not likely to be weekly.
Disclaimer: This feature is directed at Twilight fans. Whether you're a fan of the books and movies; or just the books; or just the movies... Twilight Thursday is a place for friendly conversation. Me, being such a big Twi-Hard, will be greatly offended if anyone leaves negative and hurtful comments in regards to any part of the Twilight franchise. Please be nice! Also, all posts will most likely contain spoilers. Please do not read anything written under the Twilight Thursday feature if you do not want anything spoiled. You've been warned
If there's ONE thing we can all agree on it's this: the Twilight movies produce AMAZING soundtracks. Even non-fans enjoy the music. The biggest example is my adult nephew. He likes the movies [just enough] but he loves the music from the soundtracks.
Last Thursday, Yahoo! Movies revealed the highly anticipated playlist for the final Twilight movie... ever... sniff sniff. Now, there is one band that got a big W T H?! from me and that is Green Day--- err, read on and I'll explain. Anyway, it had already been revealed at Comic-Con that Passion Pit and Iko were slated for the soundtrack; and as recent as last month it was rumored that Christina Perri would be returning. The biggest rumor was that Green Day (yeah THE Green Day) would make an appearance.
I think the fandom let out a big HOLY CROW bomb. Mostly because why the fudge would Green Day show up on a Twilight soundtrack (insert snickers)? However, Green Day is IN and they are stoked to be on the final soundtrack.
Content found on Yahoo! Movies:
So how did Green Day get involved in the hugely popular vampire romance? Mike Dirnt, bassist for the band, told Yahoo!, "When we were asked to be part of the 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' soundtrack, we readily agreed because the films are an insane cultural phenomenon, and we have always been impressed with the way the 'Twilight' soundtracks are so carefully curated."If that wasn't awesome enough, back in 2009 our beloved Edward a.k.a Robert Pattinson was mentioned by Green Day's lead singer:
While you wouldn't necessarily think of the guys in the band being "Twi-hards," lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong did tell Spinner.com in 2009 that if their Broadway show "American Idiot" were to be adapted into a movie, he'd want Edward Cullen himself, Robert Pattinson, to play the lead. Armstrong said, "He's a good actor. There's still more to come with that kid."Say wahhhh? I may need to go in search of their Dookie album. J...k...! In all honesty, I was a little frightened to see them on the soundtrack list... only because I had been singing along to their song Time of Your Life (Good Riddance) hours before the official list was announced. Epically, that song would be a great addition because of its meaning. Maybe I had a premonition or something like that?
One artist I am ELATED to see back is Christina Perri. She's a self declared Twilight fan, and her song A Thousand Years (heard on Breaking Dawn - Part 1) was written specifically for Edward and Bella. That song is hands down one of the best on all of the soundtracks, so the fact she's bringing a part 2???? Oh yeah!
"I am so honored and excited to be involved again in this final film and soundtrack." She also said she's "super happy" for the reprise of her song, but noted, "It's not the same [as the original]... you'll just have to wait and see how."I have to admit I'm a little scared to see what Paul McDonald & Nikki Reed are going to put out there. I won't lie and say I'm happy with this addition. I'm willing to give their sure to be sappy song a chance, but I'm super disappointed not to see Robert Pattinson's name on here. Many fans were hoping Rob would make a come back... if you can remember, he has two songs on the very first soundtrack. I believe it was kind of hinted we may see/hear him. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Thoughts?!
Here's a song sample from each of the artists on the final Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 Soundtrack:
Moth's Wings - Passion Pit | Lights - Ellie Goulding | See Above - Green Day | Comfort Me - Feist | The Pressure - The Boom Circuits | Marrow - St. Vincent | Live It Up - POP ETC | Look What You've Done to Me - Iko | Sympathy - A Boy and His Kite | See Below - James Vincent McMorrow | Now That I've Found You - Paul McDonald & Nikki Reed | Rise Above pt. 1 - Reeve Carney | See Above - Christina Perri | Bella's Lullaby - Carter Burwell
In my Twi-stalking on Twitter, I saw a partner of Bill Condon [director] Tweet a link to James Vincent McMorrow's music video... not only that, but he told the recipient that this particular song was being re-recorded for the Breaking Dawn - Part 2 soundtrack. Say what?! I immediately listened and fell in love. I'm SO dying to hear what they do to it for the soundtrack, and where it will be used!!!
On the soundtrack it's being listed as "Ghosts" - Hmm!
Okie dokie, remember St. Vincent appeared on the New Moon soundtrack with Bon Iver? I think she'll have a pretty kick butt song. Also, it's been the norm for Summit to pick a day where they let everyone hear song samples of the soundtrack before the release date. I haven't heard anything of this yet, so I'll be keeping an ear out.
[UPDATE]
While I was making this post, the official album cover was released! Here it is!

Make sure to pick up your copy on November 13, 2012!
Disclaimer: The soundtrack playlist graphic was designed by me. I used the official poster and added the playlist. It is NOT the back cover for the official soundtrack.

Holy wow! I must say, I am incredibly excited to hear all the songs now. I am also a bit nervous for the Green Day one but hearing that they are fans of the movie, I think they will put something awesome together. Also, YES to Paul McDonald! I am a huge fan of his group The Grand Magnolias so even if his and Nikki's song is a little bit sappy, I think I will love it :) Super awesome post Cyndi! You've got me convinced I need the final soundtrack right now!
